On March 11, the Chairman of the Board, the Executive Director, the Education Director and the Promotion Director of Aflið visited the Commissioner of Police of East Iceland, Margrét María Sigurðardóttir, to introduce the organization’s activities and draw attention to the services available to survivors of violence in the area. The goal of the visit was to raise awareness of the importance of accessible services and to promote increased attendance among those who need them.
Margrét María welcomed us warmly in the sunny and warm weather of Eskifjörður. The meeting discussed numerous issues related to services for survivors of violence, including how to improve access to resources regardless of residence. The courses that the organization offers for clients and the importance of them being accessible in their local area, so that people do not have to travel long distances to receive the necessary support, were also discussed.
With this visit, we want to emphasize that the organization’s services are for all in East Iceland. We will continue to work to increase access to resources and support those who need help, regardless of residence. Residence should not determine how or when people process the consequences of violence – help should be accessible to everyone.
We thank Margrét María, the Commissioner of Police of East Iceland , for the warm welcome and good conversation about these important issues.
