On May 9th, the 3rd meeting of Öruggari Norðurlands vestra ( Safer North West in Iceland) was held in Ljósheimar in Skagafjörður. The meeting was well attended and focused on the well-being of children and young people, where, among other things, the region’s joint prevention plan, FORNOR, was discussed.
At the meeting, SSNV formally joined the Safer North West project by signing a cooperation agreement. With this step, the organization further strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration on the safety and well-being of residents in the region.
Sigurður Hólmar Kristjánsson, Chief of Police in North West Iceland, expressed satisfaction with the results of the collaboration and said: “We have seen great benefits from interdisciplinary collaboration in the past year. It has created trust between parties, strengthened networks and resulted in more targeted service to residents and visitors of North West Iceland. It is particularly pleasing to see increased trust among residents in the police service survey.”
Sveinbjörg Rut Pétursdóttir, Managing Director of SSNV, emphasized the importance of the collaboration and said at the signing: “The future is to support municipalities in developing a regional welfare council in the Northwest for the benefit of children’s welfare. Our participation in Safer North West is, in our opinion, an important part of supporting a common policy and ensuring that good interdisciplinary projects like FORNOR continue to thrive.”
With this signing, SSNV further emphasizes its focus on collaboration that leads to improved services and increased well-being for residents of Northwest Iceland.
