November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence.
The annual light march took place today in Akureyri and Aflið and the Kvennaathvarfið á Akureyri made themselves visible and participated to show their support.
Three clubs, the Zontaklúbbar of Þórunn Hyrna and of Akureyri, along with the Soroptimistaklúbbur of Akureyri, led the march today to raise awareness of the issue and to express opposition to violence against girls and women, as well as all other forms of violence. The march began at the Zonta House, Aðalstræti 54, along Leirutjörninn and out to Aðalstræti 14. Reverend Hildur Eir Bolladóttir, parish priest of Akureyri Church, gave a speech.
