On November 25th, on the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, Erla Hrönn and Ída visited the Tröllaskagi High School on behalf of Aflið.
Erla Hrönn spoke about the activities of Aflið and reviewed various statistics regarding violence and its consequences. It was stated, among other things, that women make up the vast majority of those who are victims of violence and 90% of those who seek help from Aflið are women. It was emphasized that Aflið is an organization for survivors of all forms of violence and that it is always possible to seek help here.
The International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence is an important day to raise awareness about the huge societal problem that gender-based violence is. By educating young people about understanding gender-based violence, its impact on society, and how to combat it, they can gain tools to prevent violence and know what to do if they are subjected to violence. Presentations like these can help create an important discussion about how society can take responsibility for eliminating violence.
The visit was well received and advertisements were placed in all major institutions in Ólafsfjörður and Siglufjörður.
